Mongolian Beef

Ingredients
1 teaspoon Sesame seeds
1 tablespoon Soy sauce
1 tablespoon corn starch
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound beef round steak, cut into thin strips
3/4 cup water
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 1/2 teaspoons corn starch
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
2 tablespoon vegetable oil, divided
2 carrots, thinly sliced
1 bunch green onions, cut into 2 inch pieces, white and green parts divided

Directions

  1. In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast sesame seeds for 1 to 2 minutes or until seeds begin to turn golden brown; set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 tablespoon corn starch, and minced garlic.
  3. Stir in beef strips and let stand for at least 10 minutes.
  4. In a separate small bowl, mix together water, 2 tablespoon soy sauce, 2 1/2 teaspoons corn starch, sugar, red pepper flakes, and sesame seeds; set aside.
  5. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in wok or skillet over high heat.
  6. Cook beef, stirring constantly in hot oil for 1 minute; remove and set aside.
  7. Heat remaining 1 tablespoon oil in the same pan.
  8. Saute carrots and white part of green onion for 2 minutes.
  9. Stir in green part of green onion and saute for 1 minute.
  10. Stir in sesame seed mixture and beef.
  11. Cook, stirring constantly, until sauce boils and thickens.

Serve dish over rice.
