Kroger Neighborhood Reward Program

Do you shop at Kroger's?

Would you like 4% of your purchases to automatically be given to The American Cancer Society?

I am a loyal Kroger customer. I shop at Kroger every Saturday morning. So you can imagine my pleasure at hearing that 4% of my purchases could automatically be given to The American Cancer Society, an organization I strongly support.

How does it work?

I have a Kroger Gift Card that has been designated as a Neighborhood Reward Card. I use it to make all my purchases at Kroger's. Each week before I purchase my groceries I put money on my Reward Card. Then when my groceries are scanned and I am told how much I owe, I give them my Reward Card to pay for the groceries. (The 4% is actually earned when money is put on the card, not when it is used.)

How do I put money on my card?

One of two ways:

  1. As soon as I walk into the store I go to the customer service desk and ask to put money on my card. I pay for the additional money on my card at that time. (Please note that you can not pull money off the card for 5 minutes if using this option. But, I always take more than 5 minutes to shop for my groceries.)
  2. More often I put money on my card in the checkout line. I put my reward card down on the belt before my groceries, even putting one of those dividing bars down after the card. Then I put my groceries on the belt. I ask the cashier to put money on the card, and I pay for it. Then the cashier rings up the groceries. (These must take place as separate transactions.) I then pay for the groceries with the reward card. (If you put money on your card at the same register that you pay for your groceries you do not have to wait 5 minutes before using the card.)
