I have mentioned in the past that I go grocery shopping every Saturday. It is a habit I picked up from my mom. My dad and my brother would stay home and do whatever it is they did and my mom and I would run errands, mostly involving just the grocery store.
My 2 year old daughter, while she loves riding in the cars they have attached to the carts now days, can make a trip to the grocery store very difficult. So, I like to leave my husband and daughter at home while I do my shopping. It used to be I would leave around 7am, I am a morning person, the store would not yet be busy and the shelves would be fully shelved for the impending crowds. I would make it home shortly after 8 and may times my daughter and husband would not yet be up anyway. Now, with my daughter waking up around 6:30 each morning and my husband a later sleeper on the weekends I must shop when it is much more crowded.
Anyway, this past Saturday, largely because of my husbands desire to have 100% of his attention on NCAA tournament basketball, I had to wait to go shopping for my daughters nap. Nap time is now about 3pm. By the time I made it to the store, 3 of the big sale items that I wanted to get were sold out. That is why I did something that I had never taken the time to do in the past, I went to the customer service desk and asked for a rain check.
Rain checks are great. I now can go back and get the .20 a tub 'I Can't Believe It's Not Butter' tubs that I wanted. (yes, I plan to buy 3 at .20 after coupon) I also could get the apple juice I wanted to get at last weeks sale price, however, it is on a much better sale this week.
So, don't forget to write down the items that you would like to get on sale that are out of stock as you are shopping. Write down the name, size, and price. Then before you check out, go to the customer service counter and ask for a rain check. It was fast and easy and I think well worth my time.
If you are frustrated trying to decide what to have for dinner every night let me help. On Friday, a shopping list for the next weeks meals is posted. Visit http://www.CarriesCooking.com/ each day and your dinner frustrations will be over. I hope you join me for this free, time and money saving guide.
