What's Your Favorite Spice

Over time my favorite spice(s) have changed. I remember when I first moved out on my own I made sure I had chili powder. Why chili powder? My mom's best dishes, the ones I learned to put a little of this and a little of that because there was no recipe, used chili powder. I still love those dishes. For an example check out my version of my mom's chili, Carrie's Chili. Then I discoved basil, sweet basil. I still spinkle some basil on our favorite frozen pizza before putting it in the oven. (I also put some freshly ground black pepper, yum.)

Now that I have been out on my own checking out cookbooks from the library, watching cooking shows, and finding recipes on the web I have come to appreciate many spices. You should see my collection of spices. (I am still planning on making a spice rack that hangs on my pantry door to make them easier to find.)

Thyme! Thyme is one of my favorite spices right now. I love adding it to any chicken dish. I think it just pumps up the flavor of any chicken recipe. I also love adding it to stews, and soups. So next time you are making chicken of some kind. Try adding 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of Thyme and let me know what you think.

What is your favorite spice?

Don't forget to pull chicken from the freezer for tomorrow's planned meal, Sweet-and-Sour Chicken.

Garlic! Can't go wrong with garlic.. I also love to use Lawry's Black Pepper Seasoned Salt. I add that to potato salad and chicken salad as well as other dishes.

I will have to check out Lawry's Black Pepper Seasoned Salt.
