I have always had problem with dry hands. I remember when I was in middle school my doctor gave me special lotion for my hands. He told me to put the lotion on my hands at night and then sleep with socks on my hands to allow the lotion to work its way into my skin. Could you sleep with socks on your hands? I know that didn't last long for me. Then there was college when I lived in an apartment and cooked and had no dishwasher. My hands got so dry that any time my hands touched water my hands would sting.
I haven't had too many problems about dry skin since then until I became a mom. Now I wash my hands when I need to wash my hands and when my daughter needs to wash her hands. My hands are in the soapy water in the sink to clean up the kitchen after breakfast, lunch and dinner. My hands started to look red from being raw, and cracked from being so dry. Not any more. Now, when I clean up the kitchen I give my self a deep moisturizing treatment at the same time.
How? First I fill my sink with hot soapy water. (Read my article on why I keep Soapy Water in Sink.) Then I keep a bottle of my favorite lotion by my sink and load my hands up with lotion. (I put on more than I can rub into my skin right away.) Then I put my hands into a set of rubber gloves. I find that the hot water in the sink helps to work the lotion into my skin. Then when I am done cleaning up and I remove the gloves all the lotion has been absorbed into my skin. My hands have never been so soft and smooth. They also look years younger, and my nails are stronger.
Why not pamper your hands while cleaning up your kitchen the way I do? Let me know if you see the benefits too.
As an additional note: You may want to get extra gloves for your little ones. My daughter has to have a pair on whenever I do. I would give in and just let her wear mine until I decided just to get her a pair.
