I introduced a friend of mine to The Grocery Game (please use CarriesCooking@gmail.com as referral) she told me how she was intimidated with the work to get the coupons organized. That was hard for me, an already avid coupon clipper, to understand. The Grocery Game was a way to make my life easier. I was already trying to line up coupons with sales but wasn't doing it well, and stock piling a pantry was a new concept for me. But, taking a step back, looking at the large number of coupons that I have I can see how it might be intimidating.
I organize my coupons using a binder that has 12 different slots. Then I label them as follows:
- Beverages
- Cereals
- Desserts
- Snacks
- Canned Goods
- Refrigerated Goods
- Frozen Goods
- Other Food
- Baby
- Toiletries
- Drugs
- Paper Goods and Cleaning
Then in categories where I have a large number of coupons. For example the paper goods and cleaning category I have several envelopes that are labeled as follows:
- Air Fresheners
- Laundry
- Ziplock/Plastic Wrap/Paper Plates/ Plastic Cups/ect.
- Paper
- Dishes (cleaning)
- Cleaning (misc)
- Misc
What I have learned over time is to have as few categories as are manageable. It requires less sorting in the front end, and less guessing (what on earth category did I put that coupon in) at the back end.
And remember, you build up coupons over time. Just do little at a time and clean them out once a month.
Do you have any coupon suggestions?
