Baked Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Ingredients

1 (5 to 7 pound) bone-in turkey breast
1 (1 ounce) onion soup pack

Directions
  1. Take three pieces of aluminum foil and make into three balls.
  2. Place balls of aluminum foil in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  3. Rinse turkey breast and cut off any excess skin.
  4. Rub onion soup on top of turkey and under the skin.
  5. Place the turkey breast on top of the aluminum foil to keep it from touching the bottom of the slow cooker as best you can.
  6. Set slow cooker on high for 1 hour and then lower temperature to low for additional 7 hours or until juices run clear or reaches 190 degrees.
  7. Let sit for 5 to 10 minutes before cutting to allow for juicier meat.

Question...what is the benefit of having the aluminum foiling in the cooker and why would you want to cook the food with the aluminum foil in there - i.e. the taste?

The aluminum foil helps the turkey cook evenly. The bottom doesn't cook first. Many slow cooker recipes have you put veggies on the bottom. This is for two reasons, they take longer to cook so being closer to the heat makes them get done, and the meat cooks more evenly being off the heat source.

If you don't have aluminum foil you can certainly cook it without.

I hope that helps.
