OK. So, most of us know how to make mashed potatoes right?
- Peel potatoes
- Cut up potatoes
- Put potatoes in water to boil
- Drain potatoes of water when fork goes in smoothly and then potato easily falls off fork
- Mash, whip or rice the potatoes.
- Add butter, milk, salt, pepper to taste
It is easy enough to make but truthfully I don't make it as often as I might because of the time involved. Until now...
Now whenever I make mashed potatoes I peel and cut up a whole 3 pound bag of potatoes. I boil them all until they are ready to mash. Then I mash the amount appropriate for my family. I take the remaining boiled potatoes and put correct serving sizes in freezer bags and put them in the freezer. (I generally get 3 meals out of a 3 pound bag, or I guess one meal per pound. My family likes the mashed potatoes so we eat a lot.)
Then the next time I wish to make mashed potatoes I steam the frozen potatoes in the microwave to reheat and mash as I would if I had just boiled them. I can't tell you how much time I save doing it this way.
So, the next time you are going to make mashed potatoes go ahead and peel the whole bag of potatoes. Let me know how it goes.

I am soooo glad you posted this! We eat potatoes like crazy, but sometimes they go to waste (ya know, the menu is planned and then something comes up!). This is a perfect solution! Thanks, and I'll let you know how they turn out.
Amy,
I am glad to be of help. It is another benefit that the potatoes don't have a chance to go bad. I hate when food goes bad before you get a chance to eat it. It feels so wasteful.

Uh ... brilliant. Sometimes the simplest things have the biggest impact. Thanks.
